EQUAL: A Short Film Competition for Female Filmmakers, Brought To You By Procam and The Farm

Sunday 08th March 2020
female filmmaker short film competition
THIS COMPETITION HAS NOW CLOSED.

Procam, Europe’s largest digital cinematography hire facility, is partnering with multi-award winning post-production house The Farm Group, to launch a short film competition for female filmmakers, in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month.

The campaign theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EachforEqual, to promote and build a gender equal world. Within the film and television industry we continuously see gender inequality, despite efforts from campaign groups to fight this. The 2020 Oscars saw an all-male shortlist for Best Director, and in the 90+ year history of the Academy Awards, only five female filmmakers have ever been nominated in the category.

In support of women in the film and television industry, we would like to invite female filmmakers to pitch a short film of no more than 7 minutes, surrounding the theme EQUAL, as a nod to this year's campaign. Applicants can be as creative as they like with the theme, and the short should be produced using a well-balanced team with the aim to have an equal amount of male and female crew on the production.

To submit, you will need to:

  • Complete a short application form (see bottom of page) including a synopsis of your short film idea
  • Attach a drafted script (this needs to be mindful of the maximum running time of 7 minutes)
  • Email your entry to updates@procam.tv with any supporting material attached

THE PRIZE:

  • A consultation at Procam, to discuss equipment and shooting requirements
  • 3 consecutive days of equipment hire from Procam, up to the value of £2,000
  • 1 Camera Assistant and Van for the 3 day shoot
  • 2 Day Film Finishing Package from The Farm Group (1 day sound design and 1 day colour grade) - please note the final cut needs to be provided by the competition winner, editing is not supplied
